But that hasn’t stopped the actress with a heart of gold from doing her part for charity
Thye Hua Kuan Charity Night 2018 will be back this year in line with the foundation’s 40th anniversary, and will bring together both local and foreign artistes to raise funds. The show, which will take place on March 18, will be hosted by Pornsak, along with news anchor Zhao Wen Bei.
One of the highlights of the show will be when local artistes, along with members of the public from all walks of life, join hands to complete a 500-metre long Chinese calligraphy work under the instruction of a calligraphy master. They will have to finish their task within two-and-a-half hours.
Ahead of the charity show, local artistes Rebecca Lim, Felicia Chin, Desmond Ng, Pornsak and Wen Bei attended the press conference held yesterday (March 1), where they shared more about their experiences with charitable work – be it volunteering at homes for the elderly during their free time, to giving money to a stranger on the street.
However, not all of their stories have had a happy ending, as Felicia and Desmond told us in separate interviews after the press conference ended. While they had only the best intentions when they were doing good deeds, their kindness was taken advantage of.

Why did Felicia Chin give away a brand new coat?
Felicia, who will be part of the Chinese calligraphy team on the day of the show, admitted that she has yet to build up her confidence for the day itself. “I went for calligraphy classes before I started filming The Journey: Tumultuous Times, and at the time, my teacher also noticed that my hands aren’t very steady, which means I might not be too suitable for doing calligraphy work,” she shared. Despite this, she shared that she will do her best to improve her skills in the short time that they have before March 18.
As someone who has always readily done her part to give back to society, she quipped that “I might not even have known if I got cheated” throughout the years.
One incident, however, has left a lasting impression on Felicia as she shared that she went to Tokyo for a holiday years ago. “I was taking the train and got off at Shinjuku station. I saw a lot of cardboard boxes and thin mattresses outside the station, and there were a lot of homeless old people living there. Tokyo is a bustling city, so I never thought that I would see this happening there,” Felicia said.
She continued, “I saw someone who looked like he was about 70 years old, and he was lying down in his box shivering in the cold. He bundled up his belongings and used it as a pillow. On that day, I bought a coat which I really liked, but after I saw him shivering uncontrollably, I took it out and gave it to him.”
Not wanting him to feel awkward about her gift, she hurriedly walked away after handing over her coat. However, when she looked back after she walked some distance away, she noticed that he “rolled the coat up and put it with his other belongings, then laid back down and continued shivering in the cold,” she said with a wry smile.
“Many times, we have the intention of wanting to help a person when we do certain things, but their reaction may not be what we expected. Some people know that you’re trying to help them, but they don’t pay any attention to it. However, all this doesn’t matter as your own intentions are the most important when doing good deeds,” she concluded.
